Despite being the remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, one of the franchise’s first installments, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia has the best story since Path of Radiance, developing relevant discussions and tragic characters in a well-constructed narrative. However, it also brings back from Gaiden some uninspired level design alongside some problematic gameplay changes, making it one of the most uneven Fire Emblem games around.

Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is a much better game than its counterpart, Birthright. With a more engaging story and some unique, complex stages, the game manages to maintain the usual quality of Nintendo’s tactical RPG franchise.

Fire Emblem Fates is divided into two titles: Birthright and Conquest, with a DLC called Revelation. Birthright serves as a terrible example to justify such division, offering a narrative that is not only shallow but also incredibly stretched – like butter scraped over too much bread – to form a whole game, while making some troublesome changes to the franchise’s classic gameplay structure.
