More insane and frenetic than the first installment, Bayonetta 2 is a unique action game that boasts a complex heroine, an absurd plot, and an engaging combat system. It’s a game that excels at impressing us with its remarkably bonkers set-pieces.
The story begins when Bayonetta’s dear friend, Jeanne, is attacked and taken to hell by a demon that Bayonetta summoned but has gotten out of control. On her journey to rescue Jeanne, the protagonist comes across a mysterious boy named Loki, who is being pursued by a masked priest. The witch, then, discovers that she needs to save both Jeanne and Loki, who also intends to travel to hell.
Bayonetta remains a bold and [...]
Developed by Platinum Games, Bayonetta is an action game that has an unusual heroine and a simple but very exciting combat system. The action, however, is constantly interrupted by long cutscenes that tell a considerably boring story.
The game’s protagonist, Bayonetta, suffers from amnesia. She is an Umbra Witch, which is a European sect that is in collusion with demons and at war with the forces of Paradise and the Lumen Priests. Now, the witches are virtually extinct and the priests are missing. When Bayonetta discovers that a lost mystical artifact of her sect, the Eyes of the World, has appeared on the black market, she sees the opportunity to unravel the mystery of [...]
In an attempt to differentiate itself from other open-world games developed by Ubisoft – by the time of its release – Watch Dogs’ story takes place in a modern urban setting and is focused on the use of technology. The game, however, only stands out from the rest of its company’s catalog because it is an even bigger mess than usual: its narrative is poorly developed, long and inconsistent, while its gameplay is repetitive and, despite the interesting premise, mostly uninspired.
The story follows the quest for revenge of Aiden Pierce, a hacker who lost his niece in an armed ambush that was targeting him. Years later, consumed by guilt, he is approached by his former [...]
Developed in cooperation between Nintendo and Platinum Games, Star Fox Zero is an on-rails action game that aims to bring something new to the genre with a unique control scheme. However, with a problematic tutorial and an uneven level design, the game ends up not living up to its potential.
The plot of Star Fox Zero is simple and direct: the scientist Andross wants to dominate the galaxy using portals and it’s up to the squad led by Fox McCloud to avenge the death of his father, James McCloud, and defeat the villain. The story’s charm comes from the fact that the characters are anthropomorphic animals that will often speak the bizarre, but classic lines from the series [...]
Mario Kart 8 is hands down the best entry in the Mario Kart series. The slight modifications and additions made to the actual racing are beneficial to the experience, the track design is consistent and creative, and its presentation is simply impeccable. It’s just a pity that it refuses to bring any new game modes to the table; being an excellent but safe sequel.
Mario Kart 8 keeps several elements introduced by Mario Kart 7 and the Wii version. The game comes almost as an amalgam of those two titles, uniting their qualities in one place. From Mario Kart 7, it takes advantage of the possibility of gliding and racing underwater with a propeller, besides kart customization and [...]
Earthlock is an unpretentious RPG that fails to leave any sort of mark. Its story is basically non-existent, with paper-thin characters and a severe lack of tension and thematic purpose. Its dynamic combat system may be indeed dynamic and engaging, but it can’t save an otherwise forgettable title.
It’s a little difficult to write a plot summary for Earthlock because its narrative lacks focus mainly at the beginning. You could say that the protagonist is a young scavenger named Amon. He goes to find some medicine for his shark-faced uncle Benjo but finds a hogbunny named Gnart that makes him go somewhere else, where he finds someone else, and so on. When he finally returns to [...]
